Richard G. Peterson
Richard was born on Aug. 10, 1938, in Pontiac, Mich., the son of John R. and Geraldine
Piper) Peterson. He graduated from Waterford High School with the Class of 1956, served his country in the United States Air Force and later graduated from Central Michigan University in 1963.
Richard served the State of Michigan as a conservation officer for the Department of Natural Resources from 1966 until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and had a lifelong interest in birds. Richard was also talented builder, having built two of his homes. He enjoyed spending time with family, cats and other wildlife. He will be greatly missed.
He was married on Jan. 2, 1978, in Marion, Mich., to Jean Cookson.
Richard is loved and survived by his wife, Jean; and their children, Jo and Lynn Stafford of Sedalia, Mo., David Cookson of Manistique, Mich., Leah and Pete Wilson of Belding, Carolyn and Ron Hardy of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Calvin and Merilee Blowers of Manistique; grandchildren, Christopher, Rebecca, Amber, Kelly, Matthew, Ryan, Dusty, Merissa, Crystal, Jennifer, Jamison, Kyle, Chelsea, Holly, and Lennon; greatgrandchildren, Aaron, Dallas, Sophia, Ashton, Ryker, Dyllenger and two more on the way; his mother, Geraldine Peterson of
Marion, Mich.; two sisters, Carol (Ray) Kirby of Lake Ann, Mich., and Diane (Manfred) Boehmer of Prudenville, Mich., and nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, John.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Marion United Methodist Church in Marion, Mich., with Pastors James Mort of United Methodist Church, Marion, and Earl Bercot of Faith Bible Church, St. Ignace, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. Committal prayers will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Marion. A luncheon will take place at the church after the service.
