Joyce M. Hamiel

MANISTIQUE - Long time Manistique Township resident, Joyce M. Hamiel, 85, of Manistique, Mich., passed away Monday morning, June 3, 2013, at Woodland Meadows Assisted Living in Manistique.

She was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Lawrence, Mich., the daughter of Leon C. and Thelma (Hokenson) Carroll. She moved with her family to Manistique in 1929 and attended Manistique High School.

On June 21, 1947, the former Joyce M. Carroll married Earl H. Hamiel, in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in the Manistique area. Earl preceded her in death on May 27, 2000.

Joyce was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Gulliver, Mich. She enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her home and family.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Sam) Burns of Port Huron, Mich., Jayne Hamiel of Goshen, Ind., and Dale (Pat) Shaver of Manistique, Mich.; her sons, Owen (Cindy) Hamiel of Gulliver, Mich., and Loren Hamiel of Manistique; five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Earl, Joyce was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jimmy and Don Carroll.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 7, at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique, with Pastor Randy Hoffman officiating.
