2013 Upper Peninsula Division II Track and Field Finals Champions

It’s been 53 years since the last U.P. Division 2 Championship was taken by a Manistique Emerald boys’ track and field team. That long wait ended Saturday in Kingsford, when they took the 2013 championship in the last leg of the last race of the day. With that win in the 1,600-meter relay, the boys secured Coach Mary Lou Lund’s place in school history as one of only two track and field coaches to win a conference and final championship in the same year. The other coach was Rudy Brandstrom. Coming off three consecutive conference championships, Brandstrom and his Emerald boys won the U.P. Finals in 1960. The 16 Emerald athletes competing at U.P. Finals this year included, front row, from left: Ryan Ramey, Lucas Abram, William Pomeroy, Robert Ayotte, Dalton Kaiser. Back row: Coby Ryan, Tony Floyd, David Pratt, Zack Lambert, Kenner Broullire, Bryson Lawrence, Cameron Page, Zavier Gonzalez, Jared Edwards, Tyler Kangas, Travis Bolm, Coach Mary Lou Lund and Assistant Coach Amy Nixon.
