Hoholik earns All-MPC

Golfer places in conference match, finals next for team

Joe LeBlanc photo ISHPEMING – The Lady Emerald golf team made a late run at another Mid-Peninsula Conference title, but came up short last Thursday in Ishpeming. Playing in cold and somewhat unbearable conditions for this time of year, Manistique finished second to the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.

The Emeralds were led by sophomore Hailey Hoholik, who finished the tournament in second place behind Iron Mountain’s Katelynn Johnson. Johnson finished with a 97, Hoholik 108.

Both players earned All-MPC first team honors this season. Behind Johnson, Iron Mountain won the tournament with a team score 435, Manistique 529, Westwood 551 and Norway 556. In addition to Hoholik, Rachel Ryan shot a 123, Abby Milvaic 147, Breanna Bosanic 151.

The Norway Knights won the boys’ championship with a team score of 344. Negaunee came in second with 352, Iron Mountain 356, Westwood 388, Manistique 389, Ishpeming 394, and Gwinn 413.

Alex Anderson led the Emeralds with a low card 93, Josh Hentchel 95, Zack Powers 96 and DK Boyd 105.

The Emeralds will compete in the U.P. Finals on June 1.
