‘Yoopers Ride Free’ day returns to cruise line

MUNISING – Residents of the Upper Peninsula will once again have the opportunity to explore the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore for free. On June 15, the Pictured Rocks Cruise boats again this year for free. “Yoopers- Ride-Free Day” will be held in conjunction with the Alger County Chamber of Commerce’s “Pictured Rocks Day” at Bayshore Park in Munising.

According to Pictured Rocks Cruises, Inc. cruises manager John Madigan, last year almost 1,000 U.P. residents participated in the free rides.

Weather-permitting, cruises will depart every hour on the hour from the Munising City Pier on June 15 starting at 10 a.m. and will run until 7 p.m. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to obtain a free ticket, residents must present in person a photo ID, with an Upper Peninsula address, at the Pictured Rocks Cruise ticket office that day. A child must be accompanied by a parent in the ticket office to receive a ticket.

Pictured Rocks Day will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m. and music performances from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Performing will be singer Jan Arnold, the Monica Giles Band, Flat Broke Blues Band and the Drive Band.

From 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. there will be over 35 vendors in the park, a beer tent and a variety of food options.
