U.P. Finals bound
MANISTIQUE – Determined to take their place in Emerald history, the Lady Emerald track and field team dominated the MHSAA Division II Regionals at home last Thursday. While Monica Giles was tearing up the field events, the track team came out and won the first six of 12 events scheduled for the day.
Darby Demers, Gabbie LaFayette, Olivia Holmberg and Holly Blowers set the tone early with a first place finish in the 3,200-meter relay.
With the first medal secure, Lexi Carlson won the 100-meter hurdles.
Two-for-two, Elisa MacGregor came out and captured the 100-meter dash. She, along with teammates Kyra Lauzon, Shelby Carlson and Hannah Bryant, also cruised to a victory in the 400-meter relay.
Blowers, who anchored the 3,200 relay, won the 1,600-meter run and later finished the day with a medal in the 800-meter run.
First through fourth place finishers will advance to U.P. Finals in Kingsford on Saturday, June 1.

MANISTIQUE – The stage was set and it all came down to the performance. That was exactly what coach Mary Lou Lund got from her track and field team.
Behind outstanding performances by a host of Emerald athletes, the boys won the Division II Regionals at A.F. Hall Stadium May 17.
A first place effort by Robert Ayotte, William Pomeroy, Bryson Lawrence and Ryan Ramey in the 3,200-meter relay set the pace for a 72 point win for Manistique. Stephenson came in second with 39 points, Newberry 35, Iron Mountain 32 and Norway 9.
Ramey then went on to medal in the 200 and 400-meter dash along with teammates Kenner Broullire, Zavier Gonalez and Lawrence in the 1,600-meter relay.
Broullire earned medals in the 100-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles.
Jared Edwards and Zack Lambert rounded off the medal run; Edwards took the top spot in the discus, Lambert in the pole vault.
