Harris and Potvin will compete at U.P. finals

COOKS – Big Bay de Noc’s Cole Potvin and Patience Harris will make a trip to the Division III Track and Field Finals in Kingsford on June 1.

Potvin qualified in three events. The Cooks junior won the 400-meter dash at Division III regionals in Rapid River with his time of 53.83, almost two seconds better than runner-up Nick Maki of Superior Central. Potvin will also compete in the 1,600-meter run and the 200-meter dash.

Harris will represent the Lady Bears in the 3,200-meter run. She sealed her trip filling the number four spot at regionals.

Host Rapid River won the boys’ regional meet with a team score 53. Mid-Peninsula 24, Munising 23, North Central 21, Superior Central 18, Bark River Harris 17, Engadine 12, Big Bay de Noc 11 and Grand Marais-Munising Baptist 8.

Superior Central won the girls’ meet with 53 points followed by Mid-Peninsula 52 and Bark River Harris 29.

Annual ‘Paper Chase’ scheduled for July 13

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Paper Chase 5K and 10K race for walkers and runners will be held during the annual Folkfest weekend celebration on July 13.

Chip timing will be provided again this year by Superior Timing.

Runner and walker registration and packet pick-up will be available on July 12, from 7-8 p.m. at the Senior Citizen’s Center on Main Street and again beginning at 7:30 a.m. on July 13.

Participants are being reminded that no registrations will be accepted after 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the race.

For those who prefer to sign up early, a form can be found at: www.uprrc.org, www.cityofmanistique.org and www.schoolcraftcountychamber.org.

The early registration fee is $12 per person, $10 for members of the U.P. Road Runners Club, and $8 for those 14 and under.
