Manistique Area Schools cordially invites you to commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2013.
Graduation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Bonifas Gymnasium on May 24. The speaker this year is retired Marine Corps Col. Thomas Beckman, a 1980 graduate of Manistique High School.
Due to inclement weather, parents are reminded of the adjusted year-end schedule. Students are in school on May 24. This date makes up for the football day taken in October for tournament travel to Calumet. Monday, May 27, there is no school in recognition of Memorial Day. Students are back in school for May 28, 29, 30, and 31. Exam days are June 3 and 4 with an early dismissal on both days.
For the month of May, the Manistique School and Public Library has been hosting a preschool story time for children ages 4 and under, sponsored by Great Start Schoolcraft County Parent Coalition. Friday, May 24, will be the last session at 10 a.m. Parents are asked to register by calling the library (341-4316). Most recent visitor to story time was Linda Mason and her two therapy dogs, Max and Chip.
Students in Guy Thorell’s building trades class recently worked on a beach access boardwalk for Manistique Township Park. Roger Lustila, Brandon Rutherford and Robert Burton cut lumber for the boardwalk project.
Mr. Marana, physical education teacher at Emerald, reports that fourth and fifth grade students have had the opportunity to learn the game of golf in his class thanks to a grant from many local donors. The grant enabled him to purchase the golf equipment.

ATV/ORV safety class announcement: Sign-up in the high school office, and obtain the information sheet for the June 8 ride from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the Thunder Bowl Scramble Area.
LEGO Robotics Day Camp registration for youth ages 7-12 is going on now in the high school office. Session 1 will be held on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. until noon. Session 2 will be held on August 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
