Emeralds finish strong on road

STEPHENSON – A three-run seventh inning gave the Lady Emerald fastpitch softball team a 10-7 victory over the Stephenson Eagles Monday on the road. With runs scored in all five innings of regulation, the Emeralds held a 7-5 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Two runs by the Eagles forced the contest into overtime. Three unanswered runs later, the Emeralds walked off the field with the win.

Senior Haley MacGregor was on the mound for Manistique. She faced 31 batters, striking out five, walking one and giving up seven hits in seven innings of work.

The Emeralds’ bats were hot, placing 15 hits in the seven inning stretch.

Lindsay Knuth went 4-for-4, scoring one run, Sydney Chartier was 2-2 with a triple and three runs scored. Ashley Menominee was 2-3 with three RBI’s.

Sam Williams, Maddie Russel, Allie Nagy, MacGregor, and Bre Richey each crossed the plate once in the win.

Just getting warmed up in game one, the Emeralds hammered the Eagles 17-0 in game two.

Manistique put the game away early, scoring five runs in the first and four runs in the following three innings. Menominee got the win. In five innings, she faced 24 batters, struck out seven, walked one and gave up five hits.

Chartier went 3-3, including an in the park home run. She also scored three runs and had three RBI’s.

Cayla Strasser went 2-2 with two runs scored. Kelsey Gonyea 2-3 with a double and two runs scored.
