Virginia G. Shaffer Virginia G. Shaffer HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Virginia G. Shaffer, 93, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1920, in Manistique, Mich., to James and Leila Gertrude Doran.

Virginia grew up in Manistique, and graduated from Manistique High School in 1938.

She was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Detroit District) as a secretary for more than 30 years.

Virginia married Francis J. Shaffer in 1940 in Petoskey, Mich. Mr. Shaffer died in 1980. Virginia was a member of the Eastern Star.

Virginia is survived by three daughters, Suzanne and Cynthia (C.G.) of Madison, Ala., and Sandra, of Woodbury, Minn.; four grandchildren, Andrea Head, Stacey Nazarian, Carolynn Stegmeir, and Laura Adams; and 11 greatgrandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Joshua, Jacob, Kaitlin, Kyrsten, Hunter, McKenzie, Kody, Grant, and Sloane. She is also survived by her sister, Lois Stephens Makinen of Rockville, Md., and her children, Bob, Jim and Paul; as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service and burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23. be held at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks. Marion’s four sons, Len, Jim, Bob, Ron and two son-in-laws, Mike and Mark will serve as her pallbearer’s.
