Marion E. Caldwell

COOKS – Marion Edith Caldwell, 91, of Cooks, Mich., passed away on Friday morning, May 10, 2013, at her daughter Janet’s home in Garden, Mich.

Marion was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Cooks, the daughter of Leonard and Mabel (Savage) Carley. She was a graduate of Cooks High School. In 1943, Marion joined the U.S. Army in Charleston, S.C., where she served as a baker and a cook. While there she met her husband Willie Caldwell of Alabama and on Nov. 15, 1944, they were married. She and her husband started their home and family in Alabama and resided there until Willie’s death in 1958. Marion then returned to Cooks and has resided there ever since.

Marion was a member of the Cooks Congregational Church. Her biggest joy in life was her family. They will always remember her as a strong, caring and loving mother and a gramma and grammie who always made time to play, tell stories, and give lots of hugs.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicky (Mike) Chisholm and Janet (Mark) Guertin; sons, Len (Cindy) Caldwell, Jim (Patti) Caldwell, Bob (Sue) Caldwell and Ron (Paula) Caldwell; grandchildren, Julie, Kelly, Dusty, Megan, Kristin, Heather, Nicole, Samantha, Brian, Adam, Jacob and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Jacey, Joey, Jameson, Jasper, Hailey, Taylor, Leland, Alexis, Brayden and Gavin; and her best friends and sister-in-laws, Ella, Millie and Pauline Carley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was preceded in death by her grandson, Mikey Chisholm; sister, Doris; and brothers; Fred, Donald, Kenneth, Alton (Jolly), Roger (Moe) Lloyd, Joel, Lawrence (Stub) and Harold (Wiffer).

Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at Messier Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks. Marion’s four sons, Len, Jim, Bob, Ron and two son-in-laws, Mike and Mark will serve as her pallbearer’s.
