Lafe Effect Art Gallery plans preview, opening

MANISTIQUE – The Lake Effect Art Gallery will be opening for its second season on May 25. The gallery will again showcase original art works of area artists.

A preview of this year’s artwork will be held on May 24 between 5 and 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend.

Located at Trader’s Point, Lake Effect Art Gallery is staffed solely by volunteers and currently exhibits artwork by over 40 artists, half of whom are local.

Baskets, paintings, wood carvings, photography, furniture, hand-dyed silk, jewelry, pottery and other handmade, original pieces are available.

Garden resident earns runner-up in TeenUSA


Nicole Gustafson Nicole Gustafson MARQUETTE – Miss Upper Peninsula USA and Upper Peninsula Teen USA were recently crowned during the annual ceremony held at the Forest Roberts Theatre in Marquette.

Kaylyn Kutchie of Marquette was crowned Miss Upper Peninsula USA 2013.

Iris Robare of Gladstone was crowned Miss Upper Peninsula Teen USA 2013.

Selected as first runner-up for the Miss Upper Peninsula Teen USA competition was Nicole Gustafson of Garden.

She is the daughter of Bob and Barbara Gustafson.

Gustafson also received special awards for Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality.
