Powers medals, Emerald boys win home match

MANISTIQUE – A medal run by Zack Powers helped lift the Emeralds’ golf team to victory Monday night at home.

Powers walked off the course with a low card 43, just one stroke better then teammate Andy Anderson, who finished with the second best card of the night.

Tanner Watson shot a 46 and Josh Hentchell 48.

Menominee came in second with a 192, Westwood 201.

“The boys are improving each week,” coach Deb Taylor said. “We are getting some consistent rounds from all of them; I like where we are at this point in the season.”

The Emerald girls struggled down the stretch, but still managed to pull out a second place finish. Hailey Hoholik paced the Emerald squad, shooting a 53. Rachel Ryan shot a 66, Ashley Menominee 67 and Breanna Bosanic 70.

Menominee won the girls’ match with a team score 230. Manistique collected 256 and Westwood 286.

Taylor said despite the slow start to the season, the girls are working hard and continue to improve each time they hit the course.

Manistique also won the boys junior varsity match Monday with a team score 206, followed by Menominee with 230 and Westwood with 245. The Emeralds’ Tony Hoholik medaled in the match shooting a low card 48. Tyler Tobin finished with a 49, Garrett Knuth 54 and Zack Lindemuth 55.
