Spring schedules remain on hiatus due to weather

MANISTIQUE – Manistique Area Schools Athletic Director Rob Ryan earlier this week released more sports cancellations and postponements.

The high school track meet scheduled for May 2, at Westwood, has been rescheduled for May 20, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Negaunee Kiwanis Invitational golf match scheduled for May 7, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Curt Knierim Memorial Run scheduled for June 29

NEWBERRY – The 5th Annual Curt Knierim Memorial Run is set for June 29 in Newberry. Funds from registration and donations go to the organizations with the most participants and volunteers. The Memorial Run has raised over $23,000 over the last four years.

To register, visit www.curtknierimmemorial.com. Registration and donations may be completed online or via mail. Tshirts will be given to early entrants.

The kids’ “One Mile Fun Run” will begin at 8:30 a.m. The 8k and 5k run/walk will follow. A five mile run will take participants to Hamilton Lake and back.

A traveling trophy will be awarded to the team/organization with the most members participating.

Auction items will include items signed by the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers.

Spring post-season waiver granted for Upper Peninsula

LANSING – The Michigan High School Athletic Association executive committee recently took action to help schools with weekly competition limits make up some of their contests which have been weathered out over the past month.

The Executive Committee granted Upper Peninsula schools a waiver for this spring of the minimum competition requirements to be eligible for MHSAA post-season tournaments, and will review Lower Peninsula requests for such a waiver on a case by case basis.

Carney-Nadeau 4-on-4 basketball tournament set

CARNEY-NADEAU – The Carney- Nadeau 4-on-4 basketball tournament is set for May 11. The event, is open to students in grades 3-12, and will run either one or two days, depending on the number of teams entered.

Rosters are limited to five players per team. Boys and girls will play separately, with divisions set up by grade level.

Registration is $60 per team. Deadline to register is May 4. Checks should be made out to “Carney-Nadeau Basketball Program” and sent to: Paul Polfus, 295 North U.S. 41, Carney, MI 49812.
