Emeralds drop home opener
Up by one at the end of the first inning, the Miners opened the game up, scoring five runs in the second and three in the third on their way to a 11-3 win.
The Emeralds’ Kelsey Gonyea went 1-3 at bat with two stolen bases and one run in the loss. Allie Nagy was also 1-3 with a triple and a run scored. Amanda Ziminski was 2-2 with a double and one run.
Breiann Richey was charged with the loss. She faced 38 batters in seven innings of work. She gave up 11 hits, five earned runs and three strike outs no base on balls.
Up early in game two, errors again hurt the Emeralds in their quest to defend their home turf.
Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first inning, the Emeralds put two runs on the board in their half of the second. Following a scoreless third, the Miners bats got hot again, adding nine runs in the next two innings to sweep the series with a 10-6 victory in the night cap.
Haley MacGregor, Cayla Strasser and Lindsay Knuth scored one run each.
Richey got the loss, Haley Mac- Gregor came in relief.
With a record of 1-3-1, the Emeralds traveled to Rapid River Wednesday (after press time) and will return home to take on Gwinn Tuesday.
