Emerald golfers finally hit course

In full swing, boys beat Munising

MANISTIQUE – The Emerald golf team finally got the opportunity to take advantage of an extended practice period. Opening the 2013 season at home Monday, the Emerald boys beat Munising 182 to 189. Zach Powers paced Manistique, shooting a low card 44 in the 9-hole event.

At the end of the day, Coach Deb Taylor’s top five were punched together with Alex Anderson finishing with a 45, Josh Hentschell 46 and DK Boyd a 47.

Tyler Tweedale led the Mustangs, turning in a 43, Michael Mannisto 46, Gage Webster 47 and Izaak Mohoski 54.

“The boys worked hard to get ready for the opener,” said Coach Deb Taylor.

While happy with the opener, Taylor expects they will continue to improve now that they are able to hit the course.

A medal round 51 for the Lady Emeralds’ Hailey Hoholik wasn’t enough to help the Emeralds past the Mustangs.

Munising rallied to beat Manistique 245 to 262.

“It was not a bad showing, considering it’s been a long winter,” said Taylor. “We identified some areas that need work and I am sure we will see improvement now that we are able to golf.”

In addition to Hoholik, Rachel Ryan finished with a 65, Breanna Bosanic 71, Ashley Menominee 75.

Molly Matson and Carla Nottmeier led the Mustangs finishing with a 53, Eve Gendron 69 and Megan Murray 70.
