Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The efforts of Information Technology professionals are often unnoticed. Kent LaCroix and his IT Team at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital are no exception. Kent’s smooth transition of technical services from the old hospital to the new one has been so successful and transparent that it eluded mention at the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. After touring the new technical systems I am compelled to say that our community is indeed fortunate to have such depth of talent taking care of one of our most valuable resources.

Dear Editor,

News reporters call it “spin”, I call it lying. The current Obama Administration’s goal at Socialism is one of the oldest economic philosophies in the world that has always proven not to work. The recent fall of the Soviet Union is a good example, and there are several. But Obama says it is not socialism and so do his followers. Let’s examine some history:

In 1887, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh said about the fall of Athens 2000 years earlier:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.”

The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline

University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of states won by: Obama: 19 Romney: 29

Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 Romney: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million Romney: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama 13.2 Romney 2.1

In aggregate, the map of the territory Romney won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and areas and living off various forms of government welfare.

Sound crazy? If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to 20 million criminal invaders called illegals, and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years, as we once knew it. Can you say free cell phones? An even bigger increase in food stamps? More government aid to college students? Obamacare to insure 30-plus million more at your expense? Mortgage loans to those who know they cannot repay them? The list is endless under this Administration. And watch how Obama tries to tax every working citizen and the wealthy to “redistribute the wealth.” If this isn’t socialism, I don’t know what is.

On the story of gun control or gun battle, I am a former firearms instructor with the FBI. so I think I know something about this. I like to call this more appropriately “their attack on the Second Amendment.” The current legislation Obama, et. al., are professing would have had absolutely no affect whatsoever at the Newtown, Connecticut shooting or the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting. Watch how Obama illegally lobbies and exploits the victims at Newtown with his gun message. This type of lobbying was ruled illegal years ago. But the media gives him another pass on this, as they frequently do on all his policies.

Dear Editor,

Alongside a multitude of important and most critical issues, we find ourselves as a nation today in the midst of the most pivotal place in time with a potential decision on gay marriage by the Supreme Court. Are we willing to tolerate legalizing same-sex marriage that has the power to fundamentally change the structure of society?

The term marriage is based in an issue of biology, simply the merging of two individuals as one; the result is the ability to use God given power which is procreation. The act of two uniting in marriage is biologically the reason we maintain the circle of life. This is the plan.

Obviously and traditionally there can be no other way, biologically speaking, for procreation to occur other than between a man and a woman. Any other way for procreation is an alternative way through medical intervention.

Existing today in what we can call our “advanced” society, many have actually forgotten the true reason for the union of husband and wife as that of replenishing the earth. This is a biological truth, whether we like to admit it or not.

If we must redefine the term marriage, does a redefinition of the terms “husband and wife” then come next on our agenda? How can we then define the terms “mother and father”? Are we aiming for a completely genderless society in the name of equality and rights? If we become a genderless society by definition then what are we to term the basic unit of society, which is the family? It seems like a great confusion of gender and roles that will also confuse our youth as to the familial unit.

The definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman has its basis in biology. History has shown that societies have been based on the family unit since the beginning of humankind, when men and women bonded together for mutual love, protection, and survival, not just individually but for the species as well. The creation of a family unit helps to bind together tribes, clans, villages, towns, etc; once that cohesive bond is weakened, the links of the family unit start to break apart.

Republican Party Dear Editor, Words cannot express our gratitude for the parents, organizations, businesses, and community members who donate their time for the students of Manistique Area Schools. It is amazing to witness the support volunteers give to our students; from the “chain gang” at football games, visiting with students during lunch, helping with evening events, attending field trips, to helping out in the classrooms.

Our goal is to develop students who will become loving, caring and helpful individuals who will make a positive difference in the communities where they live and work. You are helping with that goal as role models yourselves.

The Manistique Area Schools and community is blessed to have the support of so many people.

Thank you,

Erik E. Mason and Manistique Area Schools Staff
