Music is in the air at Manistique Middle/High School as the High School Drama Club presents “Fiddler On The Roof, Jr.” beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Additional performances are scheduled in the auditorium for Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. All times are 7 p.m.

Plan to attend the second annual Glee Club performance in the auditorium next weekend, April 27 and 28. The Saturday performance is at 7 p.m.; the Sunday at 4 p.m.

Mark your calendars now for the fourth and fifth grade Spring Concert on May 14 (this is a corrected date).

The annual “Pigs vs. Punks” basketball game will be held in the MS/ HS gym starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19.

Soccer Camp flyers for British soccer camps to be held in June are available in the high school office.

ACT test: Manistique High School will once again offer the ACT Test on Saturday, June 8, at the high school. Juniors are encouraged to retake the ACT, but do not have to sign up for the writing portion. The cost for a student to take the ACT (no writing) is $35. The online registration deadline, without incurring a late fee, is May 3. Students can pick up an ACT online registration booklet, and “Preparing for the ACT Study Guide”, from Mr. Rochon in the high school office. Our high school code for the exam is 232410.

It is not too late to sign up for the “Spring Break 2014” trip to New York City and Washington, DC! See Mrs. Anderson in room 224 for information.

Hunter Safety starts on April 29 and runs through May 2. The sessions will take place in the MS/HS cafeteria from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Spring sports are in full swing (varsity track and field, golf, girls’ softball). Due to the inclement weather, however, many home events have had to either be cancelled or rescheduled. Watch for athletic updates in your local papers.

Mr. Shiner, middle/high school principal, has announced the commencement speaker for graduation on May 24. He is Thomas Beckman, a 1980 MHS graduate, and a decorated retired Marine Colonel. Additional information will be forthcoming in a biographical article planned for the Pioneer Tribune.

April and May are busy months at Emerald Elementary School. On April 25, the “Healthy Food Tasting” with Mr. Marana will start at 1 p.m. May 7 is the annual Science Fair. May 8 is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk to Central Park in conjunction with ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously). May 22-24: the fifth grade students attend camp at Clear Lake.
