It’s “Random Acts of Kindness Week” at Emerald Elementary. The Anti-Bullying Committee has some fun activities planned to help promote kindness throughout the school. Each day will focus on kindness in a different area: Monday is “Say Something Nice” – a sincere compliment. Tuesday is “Good Manners Day” – please, thank you, and excuse me. Wednesday will be “Value Friendship Day” – do a good deed for a friend. “Give Generously” is the theme for Thursday – donate to a good cause. Friday is for sitting with someone new at lunch – “Mix It up Day”. Finally, Saturday is “Be Kind to Your Family Day” – help with chores, give hugs, and tell your family you love them!
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students from Emerald got to enjoy some pool time recently while the juniors took over the Emerald gym for Michigan Merit testing.
Manistique Area Schools’ kindergarten/ pre-school round-up and parent information meeting will be held at the Emerald Elementary cafeteria at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The meeting will include the skills (social, emotional, academic) a kindergarten student should possess prior to the start of the school year, in addition to what is required when registering (birth certificate, shot records, and Social Security card). After the meeting, parents may visit the classrooms, meet the staff at Emerald Elementary, and register their children. Parents and guardians of eighth grade students: on Tuesday, March 19, we are pleased to announce a special program called high school orientation. The purpose of this presentation is to explain and discuss the transition from middle school to high school for parents of current eighth grade students.
Mr. Rochon, guidance counselor, will review high school procedures and requirements. He will also discuss future planning, class pre-enrollment, and credit recovery options. This presentation will be held in the community room of the Manistique Middle/High School from 6 – 7 p.m.
The National Honor Society has teamed with Woodland Meadows Assisted Living to provide bingo to the residents of the home. Every Tuesday and Thursday after school, honor society students go to Woodland Meadows and call bingo for an hour. The residents can win prizes, and everyone involved has a fun time.
Reminder: The Prine Memorial Scholarship is due to Mr. Rochon before Friday, March 22. All other Local Scholarships are due to Mr. Rochon in the High School Office on Tuesday, April 10.
