Wildcats split with M&M Thunder

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Wildcats U-19 girl’s hockey team split with M&M Thunder last weekend taking game one 6-1 and dropping the night cap 6-4.

Manistique jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener off goals by Hannah Bryant, a goal by the younger Bryant Emma and a third by Hannah gave the Cat’s a 4-0 lead when the second period came to an end.

Manistique extended their lead to 6-0 off a goal by Darby Demers and a fourth by Bryant early in the third period before M&M got on the board late in the game.

Looking to leave town with a victory M&M exploded for four quick goals at the start of game two.

Trailing Demers put the Cat’s on the board with an unassisted goal in the period. Trailing by three goals, Demers took a pass from Cassie Walters and found the back of the net to cut the Thunder’s lead to two, but a goal by Ally Eldredge pushed their advantage back to three at the end of the second period.

Manistique made a game of it with a solid effort on defense by Allison Casey, Sammie Walters and Megan Annelin in the third period, back-to-back goals by Hannah Bryant cut the margin to one goal but that would be as close as they would get.

Manistique will wrap-up the regular season with games against Alpena this Saturday and will head to state finals in Lansing Friday, March 22.
