COOKS – “Not in our house” was the attitude of the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears in their regular season finale against arch rival, the Manistique Emeralds, last Thursday.

Playing for nothing other than bragging rights, the Bear put together a solid performance beating their visitors from the east 53-35.

The pace was set early by the Bears who jumped out to a 14-10 lead at the end of the opener.

Cole Potvin paced the Bears with five points in the stretch. Unable to hit from the line, the Emeralds trailed 26-17 when the first half came to an end in Cooks.

With just four from the floor, Manistique couldn’t take advantage of trips to the free throw line going just three-of-eight in the period. They finished the night six of 17 from the charity stripe.

Coming off the break, the Emeralds had an opportunity to control the game but just couldn’t find an answer for the Bears Loren Swayer who scored eight of the Bears 12 points in the third.

With Swayer sparking a rally in the third, Tyler DeMars made his presence known controlling the boards.

He netted six points in the fourth quarter helping the Bears pace the Emeralds 15-6 in the final eight minutes of the regular season.

DeMars went on to lead all scorers with 16 points. Swayer added 14, Potvin 10, Zach Pomeroy 7, Nathan Dalgord, Brandon Rochefort and Alex Ranguette two points each.

The Emeralds were led by Conner Selling with 15 points, Coby Ryan 8, Tyler Kangas 5, Zach Lambert 5 and Tony Floyd 2.

With the win the Bears finish the season 3-16. The Bears dropped a 64-45 decision to Superior Central in round one of district action Tuesday night.

The Bears finished the 2012- 13 campaign 3-17, the Emeralds 5-15.
