Clearing meters in winter

DAFTER – Cloverland Electric Cooperative is reminding the public to avoid piling snow against meters, pad mount transformers and beneath power lines. A huge pile of snow under power lines and near electrical facilities creates a safety hazard.

“With the first day of spring just around the corner and the onset of milder temperatures, you’ll find everyone spending a little more time outside especially children,” said Jim Mackie, safety and loss prevention coordinator. “Take time and point out safe areas for them to play.”

Heavy equipment operators and others relocating snow piles should use extreme caution when working near power lines and padmount transformers. Electrical facilities may be well-buried in the snow.
