State Finals qualified

GRAND RAPIDS - The Emerald competitive cheer team has qualified to compete at state finals in Grand Rapids on Saturday. The squad placed third in a field of 12 teams at regional competition in Division No. 7-4 at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon on Feb. 23.

Taking first place was Munising with a score of 717.4800. Falling close behind in second was Hart with 714.2800. Right on the heels of Manistique with a narrow margin separating them of .72 was Iron Mountain.

The four teams will all make the trip to the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids on Saturday to compete in the Division 3 Finals. There the teams will take to the mats against Hudson, Merrill, Michigan Center and Pewamo-Westphalia.

This will be Manistique and Iron Mountain’s fourth trips to finals. Manistique competed in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The Mountaineers competed in 2007, 2008 and 2012. This will be the second appearance for the Mustangs who made the trip in 2007.

Competition for Division 3 will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday. MHSAA.tv will be streaming the event live.
