Marian J. Hewitt

Marian J. Hewitt, 88, of Manistique, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born May 28, 1924, in Manistique, daughter of the late Frank and Madge (Caffey) Beckman. She attended Manistique area schools, except for the last two years of school in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. She graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1943.

On Feb. 12, 1949, the former Marian J. Beckman married Howard A. Hewitt in Gulliver, Mich. They made their home and raised their family in Manistique. Howard preceded her in death unexpectedly on July 17, 1978.

Marion did secretarial and office-work over the years, retiring as manager of the Manistique Medical Center.

She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Gulliver where she held various offices, including church school director. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Ida Chapter No. 54 Order of the Eastern Star in Manistique, and also a member of the Manistique Women’s Club and Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Marian is survived by her sons, Jeffrey A. Hewitt of Manistique, and Brian P. Hewitt of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; twogreat grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Grant) Taylor of Manistique; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Beckman and Leonard Beckman.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral Services will follow at 6 p.m., at the funeral home, with Anne Alden and Paula Aldrich officiating.

Burial will be held in Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
