Alliance gets new name

MANISTIQUE – Tri-County Safe Harbor, formerly Alliance Against Violence and Abuse, has re-opened its Schoolcraft County office.

The office and staff is available to assist anyone who has suffered physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse.

In existence since 1982, Safe Harbor is a nonprofit agency serving Schoolcraft, Delta and Menominee counties. The group maintains a shelter in Escanaba open to residents of Schoolcraft County and operates a 24-hour confidential crisis line at (800) 682-1649.

The Manistique office is located at 417B Oak Street and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Its purpose is to connect local residents to a variety of resources and services, including filing reports with law enforcement agencies, assistance with court appointments, housing, employment, obtaining personal protection orders, transportation to hearings, support groups, counseling, individual advocacy and referrals to other community programs.

Safe Harbor also offers advocacy and education resources to the community at large.
