Emerald Elementary will dismiss at 12:50 p.m., and the middle/high school will dismiss at 1 p.m. Parentteacher conferences run from 1:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Winterfest Week wrapped up the crowning of Stephanie Zellar, Winterfest Queen, and Ed Rethman, king. Overall winners for the events were the seniors, followed by the freshmen, juniors, and sophomores. Floor hockey was won by the seniors, dodge ball by the juniors, and the coed basketball game was won by the junior boys and senior girls. The Winterfest Pep Assembly held on Thursday included such events as the “Chicken In The Henhouse” game, “Sticky Situation” game, “Garbage Can” game, relays, and cheer routine.

One Saturday Session remains, (Feb. 23) from 9-11:30 a.m., for students to come to the high school computer lab to take practice tests to review for the ACT. Paper copies are available if any student cannot get to a computer or the lab sessions. Juniors can take free, online practice tests to prepare for the Michigan Merit Exam given March 5-7. Go to www.actstudent.org and click on “Test Prep”. The MME tests all juniors in reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and employment readiness. Please note: state rules require that all testing must begin by 9 a.m., therefore, Wednesday delayed start will not apply to juniors during Michigan Merit Exams. Students must report to the middle/high school by 8:10 a.m. on all three days to board the bus to the testing site.

Rescheduled due to the weather: The UPSET Drug Presentation with Det. Lt. Sholander, commander of UPSET will be held Thursday, Feb. 28. The community presentation will be held in the auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. Please plan to attend.

The evening of Feb. 12, students in kindergarten through fifth grade and their parents gathered in the cafeteria at Emerald Elementary for Family Board Game Night. The annual Title I/A event ended with one student from each grade winning a game that they could take home and play with their family. It was an evening enjoyed by all.

Parent volunteers helped out in Mrs. Morrison’s fifth grade classroom recently. Students used valentine conversation hearts to practice a variety of math concepts.

The second and third grade students have been working very hard to prepare for their music program on March 7 in the MS/HS auditorium. There will be lady bugs, fireflies, butterflies, army ants, love bugs, houseflies, a praying mantis, some beetles, and a whole host of other creepy crawlies! Mark your calendars now, and be sure to invite family and friends to this one-of-akind musical about “BUGZ”!
