Short on the mats, Emeralds take 3rd

MANISTIQUE – The Norway Knights won the Division 4 Duals held in Manistique Saturday. Westwood came in second, followed by Rudyard and Manistique.

The Emeralds’ problems started early in the dual, with four of their starters out.

Despite missing team members, Mat and Zavier Gonzalez went undefeated for the day. Mat won four matches and Zavier, came out with five. Cole Gonzalez and Amber Smith each finished with 4-1.

The Emeralds finished the regular season with one of the more impressive records in recent history, capturing 17 wins and just seven losses.

Hoping to travel with a healthy squad and return home with a banner for the gym wall, Coach Gary Bowman and his Emeralds head to Norway to compete for the Mid-Peninsula Title this Saturday.
