Emeralds fall to Miners

NEGAUNEE – The Manistique Emerald varsity basketball team fell to 3-8 with an 84-39 loss to the Negaunee Miners on the road Friday night.

Up 18-12 following the first eight minutes of play, the number two ranked Miners put together a 15-0 run early in the second quarter, and finished with 29 to control a 47-22 lead at the break.

Up by 25 points, the Miners (11- 1) pushed their lead to 31 points going into the fourth quarter. The Miners’ junior point guard Tyler Jandron led all scorers with 21 points, including 15 points in the second quarter.

The Emeralds were led by Zack Lambert, who finished with 13 points. In addition to Lambert, Connor Selling scored 11 points, Tony Floyd six, Max Nelson three, Tyler Kangas, Coby Ryan and DK Boyd scored two points each.

The Emeralds will host Westwood (0-10) Friday.

Their game against Gwinn, previously scheduled for Jan. 29, will be played Feb. 4. Gwinn (10-3) is coming to Manistique with a fivegame winning streak.
