Penalties plague cheer team

KINGSFORD – It was a tough day on the mats for a variety of teams at the Kingsford Invitational competitive cheer competition on Monday.

Plagued with penalties in both rounds two and three, the Emeralds took third with a combined score of 683.9600 in Division 4.

Munising and Iron Mountain battled it out round by round for first and second with Munising (696.9400) edging out Iron Mountain (696.7000) by a narrow margin of .2400.

Penalties also plagued the middle school squad, which took third with a score of 308.2000.

Division 4 results: Munising 696.94 (213.5, 194.54, 288.9); Iron Mountain 696.7000 (213.0, 194.30, 289.4); Manistique 683.9600 (214.3, 201.56 -8, 278.1 -2); Norway 644.0600 (206.8, 183.16, 262.1 -8)

Middle school results: Gladstone 329.7200 (110.92, 230.8 -12); Manistique 308.2000 (97.70, 218.5 -8); Munising 285.000 (100.70, 184.3); Iron Mountain 281.3200 (103.82, 181.5 -4).

The squads will travel to Munising on Saturday.
