Accident claims 1, injures another

GLADSTONE – A Rapid River man was killed in a traffic accident early Sunday morning in Nahma Township. According to the Michigan State Police – Gladstone Post, the two-vehicle crash remains under investigation.

Officers were dispatched the scene of the two-car traffic crash at 1 a.m., according to a news release issued by the post. Preliminary investigation revealed Ryan Robert-Raymond Harper, 23, of Rapid River, was killed after his westbound vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Ricky Dale Moulds, 57, of Escanaba. Moulds was injured in the accident.

A portion of U.S. 2, near JJ.5 Road, was closed for several hours while police investigated the incident. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Garden, Nahma and Masonville fire departments; Rampart EMS and Tri- Star EMS; Delta County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police – St. Ignace Detachment.
