Road takes its toll

Varsity boys struggle against Mountaineers

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Emerald varsity boys’ basketball team fell to 3-7 with a 68-43 loss at the hands of the Iron Mountain Mountaineers last week.

Trailing by 12 at the end of the opener, the Emeralds looked to make a game of it, netting 16 points in the second. Connor Selling paced the Emeralds with seven points in the stretch.

Up by 13 points, the Mountaineers exploded for 25 third quarter points to put the Mid-Peninsula Conference contest away.

The Emeralds, who have won just one game on the road this season, will travel to Negaunee to take on the Miners Friday.

Negaunee (9-1) previously beat the Emeralds at home 82-46. Their lone loss was at the hands of Marquette in December.
