Completely in sync, both in the air and on the floor, the varsity competitive cheer team took second place at the Emerald Cheer Invitational on Thursday in the Richard Bonifas Gymnasium. MANISTIQUE – There was a full gymnasium Thursday evening as the Emerald competitive cheer squads hosted their annual Cheer Challenge.

The Munising Mustangs followed suit with their finish in 2012 and took first place with a three round score of 699.44. Just 10.34 points behind, in second, was Manistique with 689.10. An eight-point penalty assessed to the squad in round two would have only made a difference of a mere 2.34 points between first and second. Even with the deduction, the Emeralds still received the highest score in round two with 204.20.

Iron Mountain filled the third place slot with 783.50, followed by Kingsford with 679.72, Norway had 630.08 and Marquette took sixth with 610.34.
