Legislature to pick up three gun-related bills
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Republican-led Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee plans to meet this week to consider three gunrelated bills introduced in the first week of the state’s legislative session.
Gun purchases and licensing information would become confidential under a Senate bill taken up Wednesday. Information would be available only to law enforcement and would be exempt from Freedom Information Act requests.
The committee will also take up the “Michigan Firearms Freedom Act.” The bill would exempt Michigan-made guns and ammunition from federal regulations.
Another bill would make state law consistent with federal law and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regulations regarding who can sell firearms.
