JV falls to Miners’ offense, Patriots’ pressure defense

NEGAUNEE – In an away game Friday, the Manistique Emeralds’ JV girls fell to host Negaunee Miners, 50-36.

Both offenses got off to a good start, but Negaunee held a 16-11 lead after one quarter. The Emerald JV cooled down in the second quarter, outscored 11-6, to trail 27- 17 at halftime.

Negaunee went on to outscore the Emeralds 24-19 in the second half and secure the 14-point victory.

Allie Nagy led the JV team with 10 points, Holly Blowers added eight, Sydney Chartier six, Maddie Russell and Sammie Williams five each, and Breiann Richey two. Machaela Hinkson, Nagy and Williams each had five rebounds.

At home against Westwood on Monday, the JV girls ran into a pressure defense and lost to the Patriots 52-25.

Nagy led the Emeralds with 11 points, Blowers added six, Hailey Hoholik three, Richey and Williams two each and Russell one. Blowers led the rebounding effort with seven.

The JV, now 4-4 in the season, faces Gladstone this Friday.
