JV tops Newberry on home court
MANISTIQUE – The Manistique JV girls’ basketball team put forth a solid defense effort and defeated the Newberry Indians 36-25 last week at home.
In a game both teams struggled in offensively, the Emeralds’ full court pressure proved to be the key to victory.
The JVs led 10-3 after one quarter and 17-12 at halftime.
The Emeralds’ offense came to life in the third quarter as they outscored Newberry 13-5 to take a 30- 17 lead into the fourth quarter.
Allie Nagy had 13 points, while Sydney Chartier had eight to lead the JV offense. Hailey Hoholik added four points, Maddie Russell and Holly Blowers three each, Machaela Hinkson and Sammie Williams two each and Brittany Zellar one.
Breiann Richey led the rebounding effort with eight.
With the victory, the JV team improved their record to four wins and two losses. Manistique travels to Negaunee to take on the Miners Friday.
