Lady Emeralds snag first win

Girls hit free throws, Lauzon leads scoring

MANISTIQUE – The Lady Emeralds pulled out a 38-35 win over the Iron Mountain Mountaineers at home Friday night.

Trailing 21-20 at the half, the Emeralds held Iron Mountain to just four points in the third quarter, while netting eight of their own. Both teams added 10 in the final eight minutes of play.

Eight of the Emeralds’ points came from the free throw line. Kyra Lauzon went 6-of-6, while Maggie Morrison went 2-of-2. Lauzon finished the night with 18 points to lead all scorers.

“It was nice to get the win; we really needed it” said Coach Kelly Spettel. “The girls played hard and never gave up. We were outstanding from the free throw, making them when it counted. Kyra proved her leadership and held her composure on the court when it counted.”

Gabbie Lafayette scored seven points, Mindy Hoholik four, Morrison four, Leah Cook three, and Breanna Bosanic two.

Manistique travels to Westwood (1-4) Friday to take on the Patriots.
