Black Bears beat out Bark River

GARDEN – The Big Bay de Noc Black Bears got their first win of the season last Thursday beating Bark River 48-43. In front of a home crowd, the Bears jumped out to a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to an eightpoint effort by Cole Potvin.

Up by one at the break, the Bears netted 16 points in the third quarter to control a 38-30 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Bears got six points from Tyler Demars in the stretch.

With his team down, Bark River’s John Norman netted seven of his game-high 12 points in the fourth, but the effort came up short.

Potvin paced the Bears, scoring five of their 10 points in the period. He finished with 17 points, leading all scorers.

With the win, Big Bay improves to 1-3; Bark River falls to 1-4.

In addition to Potvin, Zach Pomeroy and Demars scored 10 points each, Loren Swayer five, and Bobby Holmberg, Nathan Dalgord and Brandon Rochefort had two points each.
