CUP crew providing area with assistance

Corrections program helps Schoolcraft

MANISTIQUE – Under new management from UPCAP, the CUP Community Corrections Work Crew program has been providing assistance to local nonprofits, governmental agencies, and municipalities.

The crew works in both Alger and Schoolcraft counties. In the past six months, projects have included:

•Landscaping at the Manistique Senior Center. Decorative rock was hauled in and placed around the building, shrubs were removed, trimmed and planted.

•The Manistique Snowmobile Association utilized the crew to brush and maintain trails and to build new trails.

•Doyle Township Hall and its fire department was cleaned and painted, and provided with landscaping assistance in the local cemetery and additional beautification projects.

•The city of Munising received assistance in planting over 100 pallets of flowers for a beautification project.

•The work crew provided assistance with the building/ maintenance of the AuTrain Township playground.

PA 511, the Community Corrections Act, was created as a way for sentencing judges to have an option for alternatives to incarceration for local offenders.
