Richard C. Sobieski
He was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Henry and Dorothy
Skibinski) Sobieski and attended Catholic grade school. He continued his education at Don Basco Boys High School in Milwaukee.
On April 11, 1953, he married the former Carol J. Wolfe at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cooks. They made their home in Milwaukee and later moved to Cooks were they raised their family.
Dick was employed by Pearson Construction, Alsplen Tree Trimming Service, for Wilfred Johnson, and was lastly employed as a forester for the U.S. Forest Service out of the Manistique office.
He loved to be in the woods and at his camp up north. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Dick is survived by his wife, Carol J. Sobieski of Cooks; his children, Richard (Dawn Freeman)
Sobieski of Loretto, Mich., Carmen (Donald) Tatrow of Westland, Mich., Paul (Gale) Sobieski of Thompson, Mich., Annette (Bruce) Spaulding of Cooks, and Sandy (Robert) Hoag of Appleton, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence
(Joanne) Sobieski of Manistique; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Sobieski.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Parish prayers were said at 7:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Cooks with Father Antony Lukka officiating. Burial followed in Inwood Township Cemetery at Cooks.
