Ott honored by MSUE

MANISTIQUE – Kerry Ott, market master for the Manistique Farmers’ Market and Manistique community coordinator for the Strategic Alliance for Health was recently honored by Michigan State University Extension Director Thomas G. Coon. Ott received recognition during the Oct. 31 Manistique Farmer’s Market.

Ott, credited with her assistance in forming the Friends of MSU Extension in Schoolcraft County, also played a key role in mobilizing a social media campaign to encourage residents to monitor and register physical activity and consumption of healthy foods, said MSU Extension District 2 Coordinator Jim Lucas. Lucas, who presented Ott with the recognition, said because of Ott’s commitment, Manistique Farmer’s Market was voted best small farmer’s market in the state in 2011.

“Kerry has been a tremendous asset to the Schoolcraft County Community. She is responsible for obtaining over a half a million dollars in grants that have played a role in improving life in the county,” explained retired Schoolcraft County MSU Extension Director Dave Andersen. “In short, Manistique and Schoolcraft County are a better place to live and work because of her efforts.”
