Emeralds rally, forcing fifth set

MANISTIQUE – It took a come-from-behind effort by the Lady Emeralds volleyball team to hold off a charge by the Norway Knights at home last Thursday.

Following a 25-17 win by the Emeralds in set one, Norway marched back, taking the next two. Determined not to disappoint their fans, the Emeralds rallied with a 25-20 victory, forcing the fifth and final set.

With the defense attacking the ball and strong play at the net, the Emeralds cruised to a decisive 15-8 win.

“We got off to a good start in set one, but let the service errors kill our momentum,” Coach Amy Nixon said. “By the fourth, we played better defense and attacked the net.”

Stats for the game against Rudyard Tuesday were not available at press time.

Manistique wraps up the regular season at home tonight (Thursday) against the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears competing in the “Dig for a Cure”.

Junior varsity won 2-1. They lost the first match 11-25 but rallied to take the second 25-21 and third 24- 12.
