Mrs. Sherbinow’s second grade class made posters for the Homecoming parade this past Friday. They also held a drawing Friday to give away pumpkins. Attention parents of graduating seniors: Here are three scholarship opportunities for your graduating senior: 1) The Elks is offering student scholarships through the Elk’s Most Valuable Student Scholarship, which is open to all seniors. The application deadline for the Most Valuable Scholarship is due to Mr. Rochon by Dec. 7. Please either type or use ink when filling out this application – do not use pencil, and follow the application directions carefully! See Mr. Rochon in the office if you have questions, or if you would like an application. 2) The Michigan Education Association is offering student scholarships open to all seniors. The application deadline is Feb. 8, 2013. See Mr. Rochon in the Guidance Office if you have questions or if you would like an application. Last year, MEA awarded 36 scholarships totaling $36,000. 3) Coca-Cola is offering student scholarships open to eligible high school seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. Congratulations to the varsity football Emeralds on their Homecoming victory against Westwood on Oct. 12. Don’t miss your last chance to see the Emeralds at home on Oct. 19 as they take on a new opponent from below the bridge: Harbor Springs. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a performance by the little Emerald Cheerleaders, who have been participating this week in a Cheer Clinic at Emerald Elementary led by Coach Kim Hayward.
Don’t forget the Candidate’s Forum hosted by Mr. Powers’ Government/Economics class Oct. 19, in the auditorium starting at 5 p.m.
Mark your calendar now for the HS Drama Club presentation of “Rehearsal for Murder”. The performance dates are Nov. 29 thru Dec. 1.
On Oct. 25, plan to attend the JV and varsity home volleyball match against Big Bay de Noc School starting at 6 p.m. This event is also “Dig for a Cure” and “Turn the Gym Pink” night in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
There will be a Middle School Halloween Dance in the High School Cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 26.
