Trick-or-treat: New event goes indoors

Area children invited to ‘table or treat’

MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Great Start Parent Coalition will be holding its second annual “Table or Treat” on Oct. 16. According to one organizer, the event has evolved since its debut last year, and will be something the whole family can enjoy.

Leann Espinoza, parent liaison for the Delta-Schoolcraft Great Start Collaborative, explained the event originally started as a “trunk or treat” for area children. However, due to bad weather last year, participating local businesses and organizations were forced to move inside the hallways of Emerald Elementary. Since that time, Espinoza said the coalition and participants decided to anticipate more unruly October weather and move the event permanently indoors.

This year’s event will take place in the St. Francis de Sales School gymnasium from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

“Last year was such a huge success that we hope to grow bigger and better each year,” she said. “The goal of the Schoolcraft County parent coalition for this event is to bring services and family friendly businesses to families in our area.”

Children, ages 0-12, will have the opportunity to dress for a warm trick-or-treating environment and travel from table to table, receiving a small treat or trinket from each. Parents can take advantage of the opportunity to obtain more information from each business or organization.

“This is a great way for our youngest to experience Halloween in a warm safe way as well as to bring information about services to their parents and caregivers,” Espinoza said.
