Next week, Oct. 8 – 12, is Homecoming Week at Manistique Middle/High School. The theme for the week is “Across America”. Tropical/Hawaii kicks off on Monday, Oct. 8, with Big and Buff Volleyball at 7 p.m. in the gym, along with float building. Tuesday is “Upper Peninsula/ Camo/Hunter Orange Day”, as float building continues. “Wild West Wednesday” activities include the Powder Puff Football game at 7:30 p.m. on the football field at AF Hall Stadium. Thursday is “Dress to Impress Day” as students pay tribute to Wall Street. Friday, as always, is “Green and White Day”. Students will participate in a Pep Assembly during seventh hour.

The Homecoming Parade will begin to lineup on Pearl Street at 5 p.m. Friday and travel through downtown at 5:30 p.m. YETI wants to invite all staff and their families to the tailgate party as part of the Homecoming festivities. Starting after the parade and continuing until about 7 p.m., they will have a free concert (Floyd Brothers) and tailgate food. The tailgate will take place in front of Manistique High School.

The varsity Emeralds host the Westwood Patriots with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Coronation festivities will take place at halftime, followed by an “after the game dance” until midnight for high school students. Make it a family event on Friday, Oct. 12, and join your Manistique Emeralds!

The Manistique Middle/High School recently sent four teachers to the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District to receive training in the development of online assessments. These new assessment pieces will be aligned to national standards, and will improve the quality and delivery of daily lessons.

If you are the parent of a graduating senior, please plan on attending the Grad Party Parent Meeting in the Community Room of the Middle/High School at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Parents are reminded that MEAP (Michigan Educational Assessment Program) testing begins next week on Tuesday, Oct. 9. This assessment measures your child’s academic growth in the Michigan curriculum. To ensure your child does the best he/ she can, it is important that your child is well rested, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time.

Juniors and seniors – A representative from Northern Michigan University will be here on Tuesday, Oct. 23. A representative from Michigan Technological University will be at Manistique High School on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Fall Open Pool – From Oct. 1 – Dec. 19 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. For more information and schedules, please visit the high school office.

Seventh and eighth grade boys interested in playing on Emerald basketball teams are asked to sign up in the high school office. First practice is scheduled for Oct. 15 and the first game is scheduled for Oct. 25.
