Diabetes workshop offered to residents

MANISTIQUE – A diabetes self-management workshop will be offered at the Manistique Senior Center beginning on Oct. 10. The Diabetes PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) workshop is a six-week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed by people living with Type II diabetes to improve their health and manage their symptoms.

Following the workshop, participants are expected to be better equipped to face the daily challenge of living with diabetes. Two trained leaders conduct the workshop. Topics include: meal planning, physical activity, symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue and emotional problems, medications, and working with health care providers.

The class will meet on Wednesday evenings at the Manistique Senior Center, 5:30 – 8 p.m. until Nov. 21 (class will not meet on Oct. 31).

Class sizes are limited and preregistration is required. Family and caregivers are welcome. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcomed. For more information, contact the senior center at 341-5923 or dial 2-1-1.
