Pomeroy sets course record

MANISTIQUE - Taking advantage of their one opportunity to shine at home, the Manistique Emeralds cross country runners, Holly Blowers, Darby Demers and Tyler Pomeroy did just that last Thursday.

Competing at their sole home meet of the season held at the Manistique Township Environmental Laboratory course, Blowers and Demers finished first and second respectfully for the girl’s. Blowers a freshman covered the 3.1- mile course in 22 minutes, 17 seconds, four second ahead of Demers a senior at Manistique.

While the girl’s finished one and two, it was Pomeroy who stole the show setting a new school record with his time of 17:07.

The Munising boy’s and girl’s teams won the event. The boy’s took first place with 39 points followed by Gwinn 44, Manistique 50, and Marquette North Star Academy 77.

The Mustang girl’s paced the pack with the low score of 29 points followed by Gwinn 49, Manistique 54, and Marquette North Star Academy 83.

At right, Darby Demers and Holly Blowers are shown coming around on the left to make their advance to the head of the pack early in competition.
