Health fair is back
MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Health Fair returns Saturday, with a day full of activities for the whole family. The fair takes place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Emerald Elementary in Manistique.
The event offers various booths, activities, and even discounted testing. Various lab tests will be available for $15 each and free screenings are being offered for skin cancer, bone density, blood pressure, and more.
According to Alison Jones, communications coordinator for Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, the fair is a must see.
“The annual Schoolcraft County Health Fair is open to the public from all counties,” she said. “We welcome everyone young and old; it really is for the whole family, we have something for everyone!”
Information on emergency preparedness, nutrition and fitness, heart care/ diabetes, preventative care, and support services will be available. Flu and adult tetanus/pertussis booster shots will also be offered.
“We really have strived to provide a wide-range of information, screenings and support services to our community and surrounding area at the health fair,” explained Jones. “The organizing committee, along with the vendors, health care providers, volunteers like the Women’s Club and the SMH Auxiliary work hard by donating their time in helping make this event a success year after year.”
Children can take part in an ambulance tour, kids’ games and other activities.
“In addition to the return of live Zumba, demonstrations for ‘Karate and Body Recall’ will be new,” Jones said.
Participants in the event can sign up to win various prizes, such as gift cards, apparel, and a 30-day membership to the SMH Fitness Center, among others.
