Medicare celebrates

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Women’s Club held their monthly birthday party on Sept. 19 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility.

Four birthdays were celebrated, including: Helen Johnson, Kay Jackson, Carole Hoedel and Faye Archey. Each received a homemade lap robe, a birthday card and a special “Happy Birthday” song.

GFWC volunteers for the day were: Jeanne Gundersen, Irene Hinkson, Betty DeSautel, Betty Slining, Carol Carlson, Dorothy Hoholik, Betty Harding, Carolyn Miller, Sandy LaFave, Chris Sanders, Diane Beaman, Shirley Leitgib, Pat Mickelson and Jan Hickey.

The October party will be held on Oct. 17 and will feature the Angry Beaver Band.

Retirees plan meet

GULLIVER – The Michigan Association of retired school personnel Delta/Schoolcraft chapter will hold its next meeting on Oct. 10.

Members will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Dreamland Restaurant. Dreamland is located on U.S. 2, just west of M-77.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with a business meeting to follow. Members will then travel to Seney Refuge to tour the center.

Harvest dinner Oct. 7

GARDEN – St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will hold its annual harvest dinner on Oct. 7, at the Garden Community Building. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and features ham and turkey dinners and homemade pies.

The public is invited to attend. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children over 5. Children under 5 eat free.

Historical meeting set

GARDEN – The Garden Peninsula Historical Society will close the 2012 season with a dinner/meeting at D and J’s in Garden on Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
