PPK qualifiers move on

Courtesy photo MANISTIQUE – A total of 15 students took part in the local qualifying event of the National Football League’s Punt, Pass and Kick competition, sponsored by the Manistique Lions Club on Sept. 8.

Qualifiers:

Boys 6-7: Grant Mason, punt 39’5”, pass 30’7”, kick 20’.

Boys 8-9: Aiden Neeson, punt 47’4”, pass 41’3”, kick 3’5”.

Boys 10-11: Foster Wonders, punt 63’, pass 93’1”, kick 64’.

Girls 10-11: Payton Hoholik, punt 58’, pass 68’9”, kick 32’10”.

Boys 14-15: Carson Wonders, punt 88’4”, pass 127’3”, kick 100’.

The five first-place finishers now move on to sectional competition, to be held in Newberry on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Section winners from around Michigan move on to the state finals, known as the Detroit Lions Team Championship. That event will take place at Ford Field during halftime of a Lions game later this fall.

After that, the top four age-group competitors in the country will advance to the national Punt, Pass and Kick championship at an NFL playoff game.
