Editor’s note: The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department makes weekly submissions, reporting news and activities from the office. Activities are generally broken down into those occurring in the jail and those in individual townships. Other information may include jail information, such as the number of bookings and average jail population. Not all activities are reported.

During the reporting period the average daily population was 26.57 inmates. There were seven inmates booked into jail, while eight were released. Of those booked into jail, five are male and two females, five were charged with felonies and four were charged with misdemeanors. Currently, there are 23 inmates housed in the jail, five of which are female.
While traveling to and from liquor inspections and civil process service, deputies wrote 10 tickets for traffic violations including: speeding, expired registration, reckless driving, driving while license revoked or suspended. The highest speed clocked was 91 mph, with all tickets involving speeds in excess of 80 mph. One driver, operating his vehicle in excess of 85 mph with his child in the front seat had been suspended from operating a motor vehicle in Michigan. He was lodged in jail for reckless driving.
